The team was also briefed on the progress of the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP), the 1,443-kilometre pipeline that will transport crude oil from Uganda’s oil fields in Hoima and Kikuube to the Port of Tanga in Tanzania for export.
In Hoima District, the Committee reviewed the 2025 Master Plan for the Kabaale Industrial Park, which is earmarked as a hub for petroleum-related industries, manufacturing and value addition. Officials also provided an update on the proposed Uganda Oil Refinery, with Government targeting a Final Investment Decision (FID) by February 2027.
The delegation further assessed the role of Kabaale International Airport in facilitating petroleum and industrial development in the region, particularly in logistics, equipment movement and investment support.
The tour also included a visit to the Kaseeta Modern Ecological Demonstration Farm in Kikuube District, where the Committee evaluated how modern agricultural practices, value addition and improved market linkages can enhance household incomes and strengthen local participation in the regional economy.
According to OWC, the assessment underscored the interconnection between petroleum development, industrialization and agriculture in transforming livelihoods in the Albertine region.
The exercise concluded with a call for timely implementation of projects, prudent management of public resources, strict adherence to environmental protection standards and the strengthening of value chains to maximize the benefits of the ongoing investments in the Albertine Graben.
