The General Court Martial holden at Makindye has set October 27, 2026, as the date to deliver its ruling on the appeal of two senior Uganda Peoples’ Defense Forces officers at the rank of Major.

The court, chaired by Brig Gen Richard Tukachungurwa, on Monday, October 13, 2026, informed the appellants, Maj Onesmus Blackie Orikirizibwa and Maj Reuben Namanya Muhoozi, that they will appear before the court again on October 27, 2026, for rejoinder by their lawyer.

Maj Orikirizibwa and Maj Muhoozi are facing charges arising from personal interest endangering operational efficiency and conduct prejudicial to good order and discipline.

Court records indicate that the two senior officers were convicted and sentenced to three years and six months imprisonment by the Division Court Martial at General Headquarters, Bombo, in 2024. They subsequently appealed to the General Court Martial, which is now set to determine their fate.

In a related development before the same court, Brig Gen Tukachungurwa remanded Maj Gerald S. Musoke to Kitalya Government Prison until October 27, 2026. Maj Musoke is facing charges of two counts of theft and scandalous conduct by an officer.

The same court also presided over the appeal of Capt. Emmanuel Okwapa, who was facing charges arising from fraudulent offences and scandalous conduct by an officer.

In its ruling, the court quashed the conviction and set aside the sentence that had been imposed by the Division Court Martial at General Headquarters, Bombo, effectively allowing Capt Okwapa’s appeal against the lower court’s final ruling.

Separately, the General Court Martial sentenced L/Cpl Opolot Moses to eight years imprisonment at Kitalya Government Prison with immediate effect after convicting him on charges arising from failure to protect war materials.

After delivering the judgment, the court duly informed the convict that he has a right to appeal within fourteen days from the day of judgment.
