In a ceremony where State bowed to the Altar and power knelt to anointing, Pastor Patience Rwabogo, daughter of Uganda’s longest-serving President Gen. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, was on Sunday 23rd August 2026 consecrated as an Episcopal Bishop in a high-profile, historic service that attracted wide national and international media coverage and brought together the cream of Uganda’s leadership under one sacred roof.

The consecration, which doubled as the 20th Anniversary of Covenant Nations Church (CNC) – the ministry she founded as a humble house fellowship in Luzira and by the grace of God built into a national and international movement with congregations across Uganda and abroad – was presided over by American evangelist Bishop Dr. LaDonna C. Osborn, a long-standing friend of Uganda whose family ministry dates back to 1985.
Just days earlier, on 19th August 2026, Bishop Osborn had been warmly received at State House Entebbe by President Museveni and First Lady Mama Janet Kataaha Museveni, a meeting the President described on his official X handle as a moment to reflect on Uganda’s journey from ruins to peace and freedom of worship.
The guest list itself told the story of a national milestone: His Excellency the Vice President Maj. (Rtd) Jessica Alupo, cabinet ministers, Members of Parliament, senior government dignitaries, and the cream of Uganda’s populace graced the occasion.
President Yoweri Museveni, First Lady Janet Museveni and other close family members including their only son Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba better known as Gen MK and his wife Charlotte attended in person, witnessing their daughter kneel for the episcopal mantle.

Also present were Nigeria’s globally revered Pastor E.A. Adeboye and his wife Folu Adeboye, whom Bishop Patience honors as spiritual parents, Israeli worship ministers Emmanuel Roro and Helen Yilma, and thousands of clergies, intercessors and worshippers.
It is from the mid North, from the heart of Lango in Lira City, that one of the most powerful, theologically profound, culturally rooted and brotherly congratulatory messages has now come, adding a deeper national meaning to the consecration.
His Royal Highness (HRH) Eng. Dr. Michael Moses Odongo Okune, the Paramount Chief of Lango, also known as Won Nyaci Me Lango, has sent a hearty congratulatory message to the newly consecrated Bishop, declaring her the Spiritual Ayaa of Uganda and Africa, while commending the First Family for exemplary parenting.
Theological And Cultural Root: Agong, Apap and Ayaa.
The Won Nyaci Okune, himself an acclaimed civil engineer specialized in bridge construction, Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers (UK), former pioneer Executive Director of Uganda Road Fund(URF)where he served 10 years, holder of BSc Civil Engineering, MSc Civil Engineering and PhD in Civil Engineering from Makerere University, MBA, and Masters in Bridge Engineering from University of Surrey, UK, said the consecration must be understood through both Lango culture and Church tradition, not just ecclesiastical protocol.
In his message, the Paramount Chief explained that in Lango, honor has a sacred language. In Lango the wife of Won Nyaci or a highly revered person is called Agong.

Agong is not merely a wife. She is Queen. She is revered mother of the chiefdom, custodian of counsel, embodiment of dignity, intercessor for the clan, keeper of the hearth and moral compass of the people. When Agong speaks, the kingdom listens. When Agong prays, the kingdom is covered.
He drew a beautiful parallel with the Church in Lango. In the Church of Uganda, Diocese of Lango headed by the highly academically and theologically decorated Prof. Dr. Alfred Olwa as Bishop with its seat at All Saints Cathedral Boroboro, and its sister West Lango Diocese headquartered at Aduku in Apac led by Bishop Julius Caesar Nina Otim, there is a similar sacred reverence that Langi hold dear: Bishops and clergies are referred to as Apap – meaning Father, Papa, spiritual father of the flock – and their spouses are referred to as Ayaa – meaning Mother, spiritual mother, shepherdess of the women, counsellor of homes.

Agong in the cultural palace and Ayaa in the ecclesiastical palace mean the same thing: a mother who nurtures, covers, counsels, intercedes and builds the people.
“Bishop Patience is now the Spiritual Ayaa of Uganda and Africa,” declared HRH Eng. Dr. Okune in his message.
The Won Nyaci elaborated: “Though she is now consecrated as Bishop – therefore an Apap in Episcopal authority and spiritual fatherhood in the order of Bishops – her heart, her 20-year ministry, has been the heart of an Ayaa.
She has mothered families, strengthened marriages, raised children in the fear of God, interceded for Uganda when others politicized. She is now Agong of the Spirit. She is not just Ayaa of Covenant Nations Church; she is Ayaa of Uganda and Africa.
The Anglican at Boroboro under my brother Apap Prof. Bishop Alfred Olwa, the Catholic Lira Diocese, the Born-Again in Luzira, the Lango mother in Aduku and others – all will now look to her as Spiritual Mother.”
The Bridge Builder Honors the Kingdom Builder: A Brotherly Circle of History.
The Won Nyaci’s message carries a brotherly weight that transcends mere protocol and goes to the root of Uganda’s history.
HRH Eng. Dr. Okune is fondly referred to as “My Son” by President Museveni. This is not casual affection; it is covenant history forged in school and service.
President Museveni studied with the late William Joseph Okune Onweng (1940-2009), father of the Paramount Chief, at the prestigious Ntare High School in Mbarara – the historic school that forged Uganda’s post-independence leadership and revolutionary elite.
Mzee William Okune was brilliant, disciplined, and a principled economist. After the 1986 liberation war, President Museveni, in his magnanimity and recognition of merit, appointed William Okune in his post-1986 government, entrusting him with national responsibility as the Minister of Environment Protection before later becoming the Planning and Economic Development Minister.
Today, almost four decades later, history has drawn a perfect, beautiful circle. The son of William Okune, who builds physical bridges of concrete, steel and tarmac across Uganda’s rivers and valleys, now rises to congratulate the daughter of his father’s schoolmate at Ntare, who builds spiritual bridges between heaven and earth, between State House and God’s House, between North and West, between palace and pulpit.
It is the bridge builder honoring the kingdom builder. It is the son honoring the daughter of his father’s comrade. It is Lango honoring one of Uganda’s eminent daughters and spiritual leaders. It is culture honoring Church. It is brotherhood honoring sisterhood.
Elected with a resounding 91.1% of the clan delegates’ vote on 1st March 2024 at Akii-Bua Stadium in Lira and duly gazetted by Government as the legitimate Won Nyaci, Eng. Dr. Okune’s voice therefore carries both cultural legitimacy, intellectual weight, and national brotherhood.
A Commendation of Exemplary Parenting: Museveni and Janet’s Model.
In the most moving and nationally relevant part of his tribute, Won Nyaci Okune did what many have feared to say publicly: He commended President Museveni and First Lady Maama Janet Kataha Museveni for proper, intentional, exemplary parenting that has produced humble and hardworking children.
“Allow me, as a cultural father and as the “Son to Mzee”, to commend Apap Museveni and Ayaa Janet,” said the Paramount Chief, using the Lango ecclesiastical titles with deliberate honor and affection.
“In a world where power spoils children, where children of powerful families across Africa and the world become wasted to drugs, alcohol, reckless luxurious lifestyles, endless scandals, Instagram flamboyance, nightclubs, and get lost to drugs, substance abuse and moral decadence, the Museveni children have chosen a different, distinguished path,” he said.

HRH Odongo Okune noted that highly privileged, born in State House, educated in the best schools money can buy, with access and security that other children can only dream of – they have avoided scandal. They are humble, they are hardworking. They are God-fearing and that they are disciplined.
The Won Nyaci further noted that unlike other powerful families in the region and globally whose children become tabloid fodder for drug abuse, reckless luxury, and endless scandals, the children of Museveni have been allowed to choose individual paths and have chosen productive, dignified paths – Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba a decorated General, Patience Rwabogo a Pastor and now Bishop, Diana Museveni Kyaremera in private enterprise and charity, Natasha and others in quiet private life, all with decorum and dignity and without drama.
“This is not accident; this is proper parenting, Mama Janet, our Ayaa of the nation, a teacher by profession and evangelist by calling, and Mzee/Apap Museveni, a disciplined revolutionary and strict father, did not raise spoiled brats; they raised servants. They taught them the fear of God, the dignity of labor, and the humility of service. When other first children demand motorcades, bodyguards and champagne in Dubai or New York, this one demanded a Bible and a pulpit in Luzira.
When others want to be seen in London malls or Amsterdam beaches, she wants to be seen kneeling on the altar. When others want to inherit political parties, she inherited a burden to intercede for the nation. That is proper parenting that must be celebrated.”
What Ugandan Parents and Guardians Must Learn and Emulate.
From this commendation, the Won Nyaci drew a direct, urgent national lesson.
“Ugandan parents and guardians have a lot to learn and emulate from this First Family, we live in a time of failed parenting, where parents give children money but not morals, give them iPhones but not identity, give them school fees but not spiritual formation, give them freedom but not foundation. Then we wonder why our children are lost to drugs, to sports betting, to prostitution, to crime, to depression, to foreign cults.”
He urged parents across Lango, Acholi, Buganda, Ankole and all Uganda: “Learn from Apap Museveni and Ayaa Janet. First, teach your children God – let Church be their first school and Scripture be their first textbook. Second, allow them to choose their individual paths; do not force them to be what you want; Patience was not forced to be a soldier or politician; she was allowed to be a pastor and God honored it. Third, teach them humility even when they are privileged; privilege without humility is poison that destroys families of the powerful. Fourth, teach them hard work; Covenant Nations Church started in a house, not in a cathedral; for 20 years she labored, prayed, fasted, served. Nothing was handed on a silver platter, even though she could have demanded it.”
He called on the Ministry of Gender, Labor and Social Development now headed by Lt Gen Henry Tumukunde and all cultural institutions to document the Museveni model of parenting as a case study for family stability in an age of moral erosion and to teach it in family camps.
A Call Beyond Denominational Walls.
Finally, the Won Nyaci made a prophetic appeal that ties his cultural title of Agong and Ayaa together: He requests Bishop Patience to continue serving beyond denominational walls since her calling and placement is unique.
“Your calling is unique, her placement is unique, her pedigree is unique, you are a daughter of State House who chose God’s House, but Ugandan and African by assignment. You cannot be caged in one denomination or one church wall. You are the Spiritual Ayaa of Uganda and Africa. As Agong mothers the kingdom and Ayaa mothers the diocese under Apap Alfred Olwa at Boroboro and Apap Julius Caesar Nina Otim of West Lango at Aduku, we ask our new Ayaa to mother Uganda. Let your intercession bridge North and South, Government and opposition, palace and village, Lango and other tribes. Let your voice heal this nation. Your father, Gen. Museveni, liberated Uganda with the gun; you will sustain Uganda with prayer.”
He concluded with a Lango blessing and Christian benediction: “Tekwaro Lango – may Lango hold you. May God of our ancestors and God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob hold you.”
“On behalf of the Lango Cultural Institution, the more than 160 clans of Lango, the owitong and the people of Lango, I, Won Nyaci Me Lango HRH Eng. Dr. Michael Moses Odongo Okune, congratulate our Spiritual Ayaa, Rt Rev Bishop Patience Rwabogo. You are now Agong of the Spirit. May your episcopal mantle be a mantle of motherhood, wisdom, humility, hard work, and national healing. Apap Museveni and Ayaa Janet have given Uganda a Bishop and given parents a mirror and a model. Lango celebrates with you. Uganda celebrates with you.”
Indeed, when a daughter of State House kneels to receive a Bishop’s mitre and a Paramount Chief who builds bridges of steel rises to call her Ayaa, commends her parents for raising children who shunned scandal and drugs and chose the sanctuary, and calls on all Ugandan parents to emulate them, Uganda is reminded that the greatest legacy of a leader is not roads and buildings, but children who fear God and serve the people.
Long Live the Spiritual Ayaa of Uganda. Long Live Agong. Long Live Apap and Ayaa. Long Live Won Nyaci Me Lango. Long Live Apap Museveni and Ayaa Janet. Long Live Uganda.
